At Piedmont Home Care, our success is built around a great team of caring, compassionate individuals. Today’s blog puts the spotlight on Ron Lewis, one member of our team who brings energy and passion to his work caring for others in our community.

Ron has more than 40 years of experience as a CNA, including 24 years working at High Point Regional Hospital. He decided to come out of retirement to work for Piedmont Home Care as a way to keep busy and keep his skills sharp. His years of experience working in various aspects of healthcare, including orthopedics, cardiology, and oncology, have given him a breadth of knowledge that helps him provide top-notch care for clients within the Piedmont Home Care community.

“Working in the home health arena has been so rewarding for me,” Ron says. “I really enjoy the ability to work with patients one on one.” In the hospital setting Ron often had 12 patients during a shift, feeling like he rushed from one to another to get vitals taken and basic tasks completed. Now, he’s able to do the medical care while also building a relationship with his patients.

“One of my clients is a retired minister, and he and I really have a good rapport,” Ron says. “I look forward to going to his home every day because we have such good conversations about God and the Bible.” Ron and this client had plenty of opportunities for theological discussions during daily outings to K&W. “He has had to give up his driver’s license due to poor health, but that doesn’t stop us from going out to lunch every day, a tradition of his which I’m glad to help him continue,” Ron says.

During the months when North Carolinians were staying home to avoid exposure to the COVID-19 virus, Ron and his client adjust to keep the tradition alive. “He really loves getting his food from K&W, so we just switched it up to take out instead, and would bring the food back to the house to eat,” Ron says.

Ron knows that a lot of times it’s hard for people to make the decision to ask for help in caring for loved ones. “We often think it’s our duty as family, but when you get too stressed out or overwhelmed with the care needed, it’s not good for either one of you,” Ron says. “That’s when getting help from the team at Piedmont Home Care can really make a difference.

In addition to the opportunity to build relationships with clients, Ron also appreciates the flexibility he’s afforded by working with Piedmont Home Care. “I’ve been working with this company for a little over six months, and I really enjoy the opportunity it’s given me to enhance my career,” Ron says.
